Open Watercolour Studio
This informal, yet highly informative class is designed to guide you through personalized watercolour projects at an individual level. Benefit from advice, critiques, new ideas, personalized teaching, and a fun, supportive painting experience. This class is open to students at any level who are looking for inspiration, one-on-one guidance, or a refresher on a particular technique or style of paint application. Class size is limited to five students.
Choose a schedule that works for you: Morning sessions from 9-12, and afternoon sessions from 1-4 are available on the following Tuesdays:

Individual 3 hour sessions - $35 + HST
Four 3 hour sessions - $125 + HST

First Steps in Watercolour
This workshop is for the absolute beginner who is curious to try their hand at watercolour. Learn how to make basic paintings using washes, wet-in-wet and dry brush techniques. You’ll discover how the paint flows through the water and blends on its own, creating amazing spontaneous effects. No need to purchase materials or supplies, just come ready to be creative. You will be amazed at your results!

Plein Air Watercolour
Celebrate the beauty of our west coast landscapes and experience the joy and immediacy of painting in the great outdoors! Pack up your paints and stretched paper and meet Jennifer on location for a group painting session en plein air (meaning in the open air). Learn how to block in a composition, achieve specialty effects for skies, water, trees and grasses, and realistically create atmospheric perspective. Enjoy the spontaneity, freshness and meditative experience that only plein air painting can bring! Locations to be finalized.

Landscape Explorations
Create dynamic landscapes that effectively capture light and atmospheric perspective! Learn Jennifer’s tips and techniques for creating trees, foliage, water, bark, rocks and fog. Explore new textural effects, dry brush applications and wet-in-wet techniques. Learn how to effectively work from a reference photo, and apply composition and colour theory to your landscapes.

Botanical Watercolours
Create a still life with your favorite plants and garden specimens. Learn to paint with precision and detail, while using spontaneous wet-in-wet effects to naturally capture the organic forms of you subjects. Create a soft watery background, and use pulled edges and glazing techniques to achieve sharper foreground details. Learn to achieve luminosity by emphasizing the white of the paper!

Watercolour Basics
This class is designed for the beginner, or near beginner, who is looking to try this fun and challenging medium in a creative environment. Jennifer will guide you through basic techniques to get you comfortable with the medium, and excited about exploring the endless possibilities watercolour can offer. Washes, wet-in-wet, glazing, textural effects, colour mixing and composition are just some of the topics covered in this extensive 8 week course.

Watercolour - Beyond the Basics
Are you ready to take your watercolours to the next level? This class is designed for students with previous watercolour experience who want to advance their skills, and learn tips and secrets to create clean, luminous watercolours. A variety of techniques will be explored, including wet-in-wet, pulled edges, glazing, dry-brush, textural effects, and liquid mask. Advanced colour mixing and new project ideas for landscape, still life and florals will be explored in a fun classroom environment.

Preserving the white of the paper is essential in bringing life and luminosity to your watercolour paintings. Learn how masking can help you keep highlights, add details, create realistic textures, clean up your edges and simplify your painting process. Discover new ways of effectively using liquid mask, masking tape and frisket film to enhance your watercolour paintings.

Watercolour Shadow Studies
Learn to capture realistic, transparent shadows for your landscape and still life paintings. Delve into shadow specific colour mixing, new methods of paint application and various tips and techniques. Learn to incorporate the colour of your subject into the shadows to create depth, luminosity and a beautiful reflective quality.

Colour Mixing for Watercolour
Learn to mix velvet blacks, deep, rich reds, luminous browns, and all the colours in between. This informative, interactive workshop will cover basic to advanced colour mixing for the unique properties of watercolour paint. Students will learn to mix with complementary colour pairings, alter colours through glazes, mix from a limited palette, and gain a better understanding of the colour wheel. Discover ways to apply all of this theory to your paintings and create clean, luminous watercolours without the "mud."
